Former Boston Celtics shooting guard Tony Allen was reportedly arrested in Arkansas on drug charges according to recent reporting from Associated Press reporter Clay Bailey. Per the AP, Allen was picked up in Poinsett Country, Arkansas after a car driven by William Hatten was pulled over while traveling on Interstate 555 about 50 miles northwest of Memphis.
Per the Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office, “a package of leafy substance, later identified as marijuana” was found on Allen’s person in the traffic stop, and a subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly produced “a cigarette box with a powdery substance, later identified as cocaine.”
No explanation as to why the vehicle had been pulled over in the first place was given in the AP article.
Allen was implicated in a federal insurance fraud scandal in 2023, and was sentenced to community service and three years of supervised probation, which this arrest could potentially affect.
The Oklahoma State alum played for Boston from 2004 to 2010, and was an instrumental part of the roster that won the 2008 NBA title.
