The Pittsburgh Steelers failed to make any acquisitions at the NFL trade deadline — and we now know why, at least for one of the wide receiver targets.
According to SportsNet New York’s Connor Hughes, the Miami Dolphins were listening to trade calls for their star wideout Jaylen Waddle — a receiver who’s been linked to Pittsburgh over the past few weeks — but the asking price for their talented pass catcher drove teams away.
“The Dolphins did listen to calls for Jaylen Waddle,” Hughes wrote via X. “They wanted a first-round pick plus, I’m told. That was too rich for most receiver-needy teams.”
If Pittsburgh was one of the teams making calls on Waddle, this would be the second set of failed trade talks at the deadline, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter also reported the Steelers were one of two teams interested in acquiring Jakobi Meyers before he was ultimately sent to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Ultimately, the Steelers decided to stand pat at the NFL trade deadline — choosing to move forward with DK Metcalf, Calvin Austin III, and Roman Wilson as their top three wideouts for the remainder of the season.
