The Seattle Seahawks needed to create room for wide receiver Rashid Shaheed on their 53-man roster, who they acquired from the New Orleans Saints on NFL trade deadline day. John Schneider did so by releasing veteran safety Jerrick Reed II with the hope he could sneak him back onto the practice squad. The Tennessee Titans prevented that from happening by claiming Reed before he could clear waivers.
The Seahawks selected Reed with the No. 198 overall pick in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL draft. The former New Mexico standout has been a core special teamer and practice squad player ever since. The Seahawks possessed interest in continuing to develop Reed, but the Titans took advantage of their priority on the waiver wire.

It’s possible the Titans will eventually waive Reed. They are constantly churning their roster as owners of the worst record (1-8) in the NFL. They’re also dealing with an injury at safety to Xavier Woods, but have depth at the position with Amani Hooker, Quandre Diggs, and Kevin Winston Jr. on the 53-man roster. If Reed is waived once Woods comes back, he could land back in Seattle.
Reed has played 62 snaps on special teams for the Seahawks this campaign, and another 13 snaps on defense. Unfortunately, Schneider couldn’t protect Reed from being exposed to the waiver claims process. Hopefully he’ll be back in Seattle for the playoff run.
