The Los Angeles Rams made everything (except kicking field goals) look easy against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, cruising to a 34-10 win at home in their return from a bye week. It was a complete team effort, with the offense possessing the ball for nearly 44 minutes and the defense allowing only 10 first downs.
As a result of Los Angeles’ remarkable ball control, the defense was on the field for just 41 total plays. The offense, meanwhile, ran 77 plays and racked up 438 yards.
Jared Verse joked with Andrew Whitworth on the “Fitz & Whit” podcast this week that the game felt like a “nice little warmup” to him because of how few snaps he played.
“Man, that 20 plays I had, I’m cool, man,” he said. “Offense was eating up that clock, doing their thing. It felt like a nice little warmup. I ain’t going to lie to you, it was so hard. I’m happy, offense is going down, making plays and everything like that. But I think BY said it best. BY was like, ‘I want to play ball. We only had three plays in the third quarter.’ I’m over there like, ‘Go score already.’”

Verse didn’t actually play only 20 snaps, but his 37 snaps were the fewest he’s had in a game besides Week 18 last year when the starters were pulled early. And even still, his 90.2% snap share was the second-highest of his career.
The defense will likely play far more snaps on Sunday against a high-powered 49ers offense that ranks third in third-down conversion rate, but at least everyone should be fresh after playing so little against the Saints.
