Trinity, St. Xavier, Fairdale football record KHSAA first-round playoff victories

Zane Johnson threw three touchdown passes and also rushed for a score in the first quarter to lead the Trinity High School football team to a 56-0 victory over visiting Great Crossing on Thursday in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs.

Johnson completed 5 of 6 passes for 67 yards and had touchdown throws to Jayce Duvall (two) and Kaleb Warner. Johnson also had a 49-yard touchdown run.

Backup quarterbacks Isaac Byers and Will Howard also had touchdown passes, both going to Evan Myers-Smith.

Ashton Taylor and Jamaurion Berry added touchdown runs for the Shamrocks (9-2), ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 6A.

Trinity’s defense had five interceptions, led by Allen Evans with two.

Trinity will host the winner of Friday’s Oldham County-Simon Kenton game next week in the second round of the playoffs.

Great Crossing finished 2-9.

St. Xavier 49, Southern 0

Mason Trimble threw three touchdown passes as the host Tigers (8-3) built a 35-0 lead in the first quarter and cruised past the Trojans (2-9).

Trimble threw touchdown passes of 45 and 19 yards to Karsten Busch and 58 yards to Lucas Shelton.

University of Louisville commit Marlon Harbin had touchdown runs of 32 and 10 yards in the first quarter.

Cooper Yates and Brandon Mobley also had touchdown runs for the Tigers, who are ranked No. 3 in Class 6A.

St. X will host Bullitt East in a second-round game next week.

Fairdale 35, Iroquois 0

DyMetrius Taylor rushed for three touchdowns and Jarel Butler threw a pair of touchdown passes to lead the host Bulldogs (7-4) over the Raiders (4-7).

Butler threw scoring passes of 44 and 35 yards to Rakale Johnson.

Fairdale, which has a six-game winning streak, will host Butler next week in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs.
