As Fox’s “Big Noon Kickoff” pregame show appears in Iowa City ahead of No. 20 Iowa football’s (6-2, 4-1 Big Ten) matchup against No. 9 Oregon (7-1, 4-1 Big Ten), host Rob Stone praised the longevity, stability, and continued legacy that Hawkeye head football coach Kirk Ferentz has built with the program during his 27 seasons.
On Friday, Stone joined Hawkeye Insider and other reporters ahead of Fox’s Saturday pregame show. Stone was asked if there was any surprise that Ferentz is still Iowa’s head football coach and if college football will see similar longevity and a tenure like Ferentz’s elsewhere in the future.
“Kirk Ferentz being here for as long as he has been doesn’t surprise me at all. I mean, that is a classy individual who represents this program at the highest level, gets wins, makes people proud of this program. Will it happen again? I think it will. I think you’re going to see less and less.
“My thing on Kirk Ferentz is, can we start building the statue right now for him? Like, can we pick the spot? Can we pick the pose? Because this guy deserves a statue, and he deserves it right now. That’s what Kirk Ferentz means, not just to Iowa, not just to Iowa football, but to this great state of Iowa,” Stone said.
Despite Saturday’s matchup between the Hawkeyes and Ducks airing at 2:30 p.m. CT on CBS, “Big Noon Kickoff” will run its Saturday morning pregame show from the steps of the Old Capitol Building in Iowa City, starting at 7:30 a.m. CT.
