NFL asks all teams to hold moment of silence Sunday for Cowboys' Marshawn Kneeland

The Cowboys won’t be taking the field in Week 10, but they’ll have a solemn presence at every stadium hosting a game in Week 10.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the league office has sent a communication to all teams requesting that a moment of silence be observed during this Sunday’s pregame ceremonies, in memory of Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland.

Kneeland, 24 and a promising second-year player, died by suicide early Thursday morning following a police chase in the Dallas area. Kneeland had reportedly experienced mental health issues in the past and “expressed suicidal ideations” to loved ones in his final hours.

Kneeland’s tragic passing shook the NFL community. The Denver Broncos held a moment of silence later that same evening before hosting the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday Night Football, and now it appears other hosting stadiums will follow suit at the league’s request.

Per Schefter, the moment of silence will include a message read over the public address system that says:

“If you or someone you know is struggling or needs emotional support, please call or text 988. The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available 24-7 to help.”

The Cowboys are on their bye week. They are slated to re-assemble as a team for the first time since Kneeland’s death on Monday.
