While not everything was coming up well for the Penn State sports fan on Saturday, the men’s basketball team did its part to deliver a win. In fact, the Nittany Lions recorded one of the most lopsided road wins in program history as they dismantled New Haven on Saturday afternoon up in Connecticut.
Penn State improved to 2-0 with a second striaght non-conference victory to open the season with an 87-43 road win against New Haven, a Division I newcomer this season. Dominick Stewart drained 6 of 8 three-point shots in the win for all 18 of his points, a career-high.

Penn State got some solid contributions from a couple of veterans back this season. Freddie Dilione V recorded 11 points and added 7 rebounds and Josh Reed also scored in double-figures with 14 points.
According to Penn State’s game notes, the 44-point victory is Penn State’s largest road win in 50 years. Penn State defeated Lehigh by 48 points on the road in 1975. This was the first meeting between Penn State and New Haven, which just made the move up from Division II this season.
Penn State will be back home for its next game on Tuesday, November 11 when it hosts Navy.
