Texas A&M’s 2025 running back room entered the season headlined by Le’Veon Moss. Still, after five and a half games, the senior suffered an ankle injury that has sidelined him for the last two games. While head coach Mike Elko is hopeful that his star back will return for the regular season, sophomore Rueben Owens has taken over as the running back room’s leader.
Owens, a former five-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, missed all but two games last season due to a knee injury. Still, his triumphant return to the field has already included a career-high 142-yard rushing performance against Mississippi State. After Moss’s injury against Florida, Owens has continued to step up and provide adequate production on the ground.
Before taking on No. 22 Missouri (6-2, 2-2 SEC) on the road, PFSN College’s latest running back ratings were released. Owen’s 164 yards and three rushing touchdowns over the last three games have earned next season’s likely lead running back the ninth-highest grade (79.6) among SEC backs.
While the focus is on the 2025 season, Moss’s absence has provided Owens a clear audition to enter the 2026 offseason as next year’s starter, knowing Moss is headed to the NFL. However, the play of the freshman running back Jamarion Morrow is something to watch, especially on Saturday against the team he was once committed to before flipping to the Aggies.
