Who Are the Biggest Challengers to the Eagles in the NFC?

As the Philadelphia Eagles prepare for the second half of the season, they find themselves in a four-way tie for first place in the NFC. While the Eagles are running away with the NFC East, they are battling for the top seed in the conference with the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, and their newfound rivals, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Eagles’ Struggles Against the Buccaneers

Over the last few years, the Eagles have struggled against the Buccaneers. With a 6-2 record, Tampa would relish the opportunity to face the Eagles again in the playoffs and avenge their Week 5 loss to Philadelphia.

Tampa has been an impressive team led by QB Baker Mayfield, and landed a star in Rookie Emeka Egbuka out of Ohio State. With their young, star-studded players, they hope to make a serious run in the playoffs for the first time since Tom Brady was a Buccaneer.

After their Week 9 bye, they have an intense three-game stretch. Tampa is scheduled to face New England, Buffalo, and the L.A. Rams in consecutive weeks.

With this gauntlet ahead of them, it will be a critical test to see if the Bucs are a true contender and a genuine threat to Philadelphia in the NFC.

Seahawks on a Streak

With six wins, the Seattle Seahawks are one of the hottest teams in the NFC. The Seahawks have won their last three games and have a point differential of +81 points. That is the third-best point differential in the league and the second-best in the NFC.

With the new acquisition of Rashid Shaheed from the Saints, this Seattle Wide Receiver room just got stronger. After already being led by one of the league’s best in Jaxon Smith-Njigba and a veteran receiver, Cooper Kupp.

One of the big question marks surrounding the Seahawks is whether Sam Darnold can lead them through a legitimate playoff run. Darnold has had his struggles over the years and had a horrendous performance in the playoffs with the Minnesota Vikings last season. This year, Seattle hopes its assets around him are enough to help it get over the hump and succeed in the postseason, especially with the momentum they’ve built so far.

Revenge of the Rams

One of the toughest teams the Eagles have faced in the past few seasons is the Rams, who have given the Birds a run for their money in the last two meetings.

In the 2024 playoffs, the Eagles and the Rams faced off in the Divisional Round, where a snowy Lincoln Financial Field hosted a thriller that went down to the wire. The home Eagles were able to sneak out of the Divisional with a 28-22 win over the Rams, but it sparked what is now becoming a rivalry between Philly and L.A.

Earlier this season, the Rams returned to Philly, hoping to avenge their playoff loss from months before. The Rams opened with a 26-7 lead over the Eagles before allowing 26 unanswered points, leading to another Philadelphia win. It was another nail-biter that ended on the Eagles blocking a go-ahead field goal with seconds left and returning it for a touchdown. The Eagles won 33-26.

With those close losses in the back of their minds, the 6-2 Los Angeles Rams will hope to get another chance at revenge against the Eagles in pursuit of another Lombardi Trophy.
