Heartbreak in Houston for the Jacksonville, as the Jaguars gave up 26 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, to fall short to the Texans 36-29.
The game looked to be swinging in the Jaguars‘ favor after the first quarter, where kicker Cam Little connected on a 32-yard field goal, and wide receiver Parker Washington caught a 7-yard touchdown pass to take a 10-0 lead over Houston.
Washington then found the endzone again early in the second quarter, this time as a returner. He had a 72-yard punt return for a touchdown to extend Jacksonville’s lead to 17.
Little and Texans kicker Matthew Wright traded a field goal each, and Houston running back Woody Marks scored a one-yard rushing touchdown late in the first half to cut the Jaguars’ lead to 10.
However, the Jaguars responded in the third quarter, again with a Little 33-yard field goal, and then running back Travis Etienne Jr. found the endzone for the first time in his last four outings with a six-yard rushing touchdown.
Jacksonville led 29-10 entering the fourth quarter, and that is when everything seemed to fall apart for its offense.
The Texans scored with just over 12 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Davis Mills threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jayden Higgins and then completed a two-point conversion through the air to Nico Collins.
After only punting the ball once in the first three quarters, the Jaguars were forced to punt twice on back-to-back three-and-outs.
In between each of those possessions, tight end Dalton Schultz caught a seven-yard touchdown pass, and Mills rushed for a 14-yard touchdown score to take a 30-29 lead over Jacksonville.
In fact, the Jaguars only ran nine plays on offense on three separate possessions, with their final play of the game resulting in a scoop-and-score touchdown for Texans defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins.
