Navy vs Notre Dame Game Preview:

Today’s game marks the 98th meeting between these two programs. While historically, Notre Dame has been consistently the dominant team in the recurring matchup, this years game has real implications.

Notre Dame started the season by going 0-2 after a start that included losses to Miami and Texas A&M. The Fighting Irish have been able to climb out of that hole and currently sit as the No. 10 ranked team in the country. Conversely, Navy jumped out to a 7-0 start until falling to North Texas last week.

Navy is a Group of Five team from the American conference. While Navy sits atop those standings, they have college football playoff hopefuls right behind them. Tulane and Memphis are also garnering some interest. If Navy could pull the unthinkable upset, it could position them better with the playoff committee. If they could find a way to beat Notre Dame and win the American conference, not only should they get in, but they might also not be a 12-seed.

Rushing offense and rushing defense could tell the story of this game. While Notre Dame has arguably the best running back room in all of college football, Navy’s Blake Horvath has just shade under 30 more rushing yards on the season than Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love. However, Horvath is not expected to play today. While Navy ranks as the 40th best team vs the run, Notre Dame is ranked 12th in that same category.

The biggest question surrounding this game is can Navy slow down Love and Jadarian Price enough to keep this game close? If they can and are in this game late, the outcome could be significant towards playoff seeding. If Notre Dame takes care of business as their respective rankings would suggest, Notre Dame would be in a good position and the American conference could go down to the wire.
