Report: Aaron Glenn to remain New York Jets head coach in 2026

Although it hasn’t been a fantastic first year for Aaron Glenn as head coach of the New York Jets, he is expected to be given the chance to see out his vision at least for the foreseeable future.

On Saturday, NFL national insider Ian Rapoport reported that even though the Jets are looking down the barrel of another campaign ending without a postseason appearance and a high draft pick, the top brass of the Jets doesn’t blame Glenn. Instead, they’re looking at this inaugural season as head coach as a trial period, where the team’s record won’t affect him moving forward.

A defensive wizard, Glenn took over for the Jets this year and has only one game through the first nine weeks of the season. The team recently had a fire sale of some of its best players at the trade deadline, most notably superstar cornerback Sauce Gardner, who was traded to the Indianapolis Colts.

The real test for Glenn and the front office of the Jets will come not in the winter but in the spring, as they hold three first-round picks for the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh. The success or failure of those selections, and whether Glenn can turn those college prospects into franchise-changing pieces, will determine whether he ties down roots at Jets headquarters or leaves to most likely become a top-rated defensive coordinator once again.

Now, for the second half of the season, Glenn will need to find which players on the current roster are the ones who will continue on with him in this multi-year rebuild of a franchise needing stability.
