It should be safe to say that Rome Odunze’s father won’t be upset with his son’s performance this past weekend. The Chicago Bears wide receiver was the topic of conversation this past week after his father, James Odunze, re-shared social media posts regarding his son’s usage. Posts included requests for Rome to request a trade to a team that will throw him the ball and that the Bears should be feeding him the ball 10 times a game.
Rome handled the situation with class this week, saying he speaks for himself and isn’t worried about any outside noise. That outside noise likely subsided with his performance this week.
In the Bears’ 24-20 comeback victory over the New York Giants, Rome played a much bigger role in the passing game, totaling a team-high six catches for 86 yards and a touchdown on 10 targets. He was fed the ball early on in the game and had quite the response when reporters asked him about the increased usage. “Thanks, Dad,” as everyone broke out in laughter. “That was a good one,” he followed up while flashing a big smile.

It was the perfect response to what had transpired over the last week while showing Rome’s character for how he handles these types of situations. As for James, he has yet to share another post since the game ended, but surely he will be proud of his son’s performance while playing a major role in the team’s comeback win with his fourth-quarter touchdown.
