Nov. 9—MORGANTOWN — The 2025 regular season is over for high school football in West Virginia, and the postseason is right around the corner, with the opening round set for the coming weekend.
Not only have all three Mon County schools secured playoff berths, but Morgantown, University, and Clay-Battelle have all earned the right to play at home in the first round with top-eight finishes in their respective classes.
The Morgantown Mohigans capped a 9-1 regular season finish with a 45-0 victory over Musselman in Week 11, solidifying their spot as the No. 1 seed in Class AAAA.
MHS will host No. 16 Buckhannon-Upshur (2-8) on Friday at 7:00 p.m. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals to battle the victor of No. 8 Spring Mills (6-4) and No. 9 Musselman (4-6). The Mohigans hold regular-season shutout victories over both of their potential second-round opponents.
University High will enter the playoffs out of its bye week as the 7-seed, welcoming No. 10 Parkersburg (5-5) to Mylan Pharmaceutical Stadium for the opening round on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
The winner of the contest between the Hawks and Big Reds will square off with the victor of No. 15 Hedgesville (2-8) at No. 2 Huntington (8-2).
“Our school, fan base, and team are ecstatic to host our first playoff game since 2021, ” UHS head coach Eric Snyder said. “It’s always nice to play on your home turf and have the same routine that is controlled throughout the season for your other home games. We are excited to show the state what we have worked so hard to achieve during this game.”
The Clay-Battelle Cee-Bees earned their highest playoff seeding in program history with the No. 3 spot in Class A.
The third-ranked Cee-Bees will welcome No. 14 Ritchie County (4-6) into Blacksville for round one on Saturday afternoon for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff. The winner will move on to the quarterfinals to face the winner of No. 11 Wirt County (7-3) and No. 6 St. Marys (8-2).
