Texas A&M (9-0, 6-0 SEC) remains the No. 3-ranked team in both the US LBM Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25 rankings after blowing out Missouri (6-3, 2-3 SEC) 38-17 on Saturday afternoon, as the Aggies continue to look like the most complete team in the country, outside of No. 2 Indiana, and the No. 1-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.
Sitting at 9-0 for the first time since 1992, head coach Mike Elko has his sights set on finishing 12-0, which would be another program record, and would result in the Aggies’ first appearance in the College Football Playoff and a spot in the SEC Championship Game.
Still, this will require focus heading into the final three games, including home games against South Carolina and Samford, leading up to the massive road test vs. No. 10 Texas in Austin.
On Saturday, starting quarterback Marcel Reed, who completed 20-29 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns, continued to string together impressive performances. At the same time, the Aggies’ running game found life in the second half, totaling 246 yards on the ground, led by Rueben Owens’ 102 yards on the night.
Defensively, Will Lee III had his best game of the year, allowing just one reception off five targets, while linebacker Daymion Sanford and senior edge Cashius Howell combined for four pressures and two sacks, which directly led to the Aggies’ second touchdown in the first half.
After defeating Missouri, Texas A&M now has a 98.9% chance to make the College Football Playoff, which makes sense given its undefeated record and wins over two ranked teams on the road.
Looking at the rest of the season, how many of the six remaining matchups are the Aggies favored in? Here is what ESPN’s FPI predictor says heading into Week 11.
- Nov. 15: Texas A&M (85.3%) vs. South Carolina (14.7%)
- Nov. 22: Texas A&M (99.0%) vs. Samford (1.0%)
- Nov. 28: Texas A&M (46.6%) vs. Texas (53.4%)
After blowing out the Tigers, Texas A&M is still predicted to finish 11-1 with its lone loss coming in Austin against the Longhorns, but it’s notable that the Aggies now have nearly a 47% chance to pull off the upset and potentially finish 12-0.
