Raiders fire coordinator after loss to Broncos

A prime-time loss to an AFC West rival has cost a Las Vegas Raiders coordinator his job.

One day after a 10-7 loss to the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football, the Raiders fired special teams coordinator Tom McMahon. Derius Swinton II will now serve as their interim special teams coach.

Las Vegas had five penalties on special teams in Denver, and punter A.J. Cole had a punt blocked. The Broncos had great field position following that punt and they kicked a field goal that ended up being the deciding points in a 10-7 victory for Denver.

Broncos fans will remember McMahon from his time in Denver. The 56-year-old coach served as the Broncos’ special teams coordinator from 2018-2021. Denver allowed six returns for touchdowns during the McMahon era, most in the NFL during that time. He joined the Raiders during the 2022 offseason.

The Broncos will travel to Las Vegas to face the Raiders again in Week 14 (Dec. 7).
