With the second half of the season underway for all 32 clubs within the NFL, changes can no longer be made, and they will have to work with what they have. Teams will be looking to make what changes and adjustments they can with the players they have, and for some, it won’t be enough.
ESPN recently asked every beat reporter on its roster to identify which goals the teams they cover should have for the second half. For the Bucs, ESPN’s Jenna Laine identified a simple goal for the team: Getting healthy.
Laine writes, “. . .Running back Bucky Irving is running on his sprained foot but hasn’t had any type of contact on his subluxated shoulder. Wide receiver Chris Godwin (fibula) is running as well. If they get back any of those players, it’ll take some of the attention from rookie receiver Egbuka. Receivers Mike Evans (collarbone) and Jalen McMillan (neck) could also return, but there are no guarantees with them.”
The team saw the return of Luke Goedeke this past week, and it paid off as Baker Mayfield enjoyed a much cleaner pocket. However, the run game is stagnant, and a lot is being asked of Sterling Shepard and Tez Johnson. Plenty of players are stepping up, but the players who are paid the most to make plays are the ones that this team needs down the stretch.
Hopefully, in the coming weeks, the team will have a chance to see the return of their offense.
