The Denver Broncos stood pat at the NFL’s trade deadline last week, opting to hold onto all of their picks in the 2026 NFL draft. Many Broncos fans would have loved to see a mid-season splash this fall, but those fans can perhaps look forward to some fireworks during the upcoming NFL offseason.
After eating $53 million in salary cap “dead money” and $32 million this season, Denver’s front office will finally be free from the fallout of quarterback Russell Wilson’s contract in 2026. Wilson’s deal will be completely off the books in the spring, and the Broncos will have cap space to spare going into free agency.
Even after giving contract extensions to guard Quinn Meinerz, cornerback Pat Surtain, outside linebacker Jonathon Cooper, left tackle Garett Bolles, wide receiver Courtland Sutton, defensive lineman Zach Allen and pass rusher Nik Bonitto over the last two years, Denver is conservatively projected to have $47,692,661 in cap space in 2026.
Spotrac.com estimates that general manager George Paton will have nearly $66 million in “Top 51” cap space. Whatever the final number ends up being, the Broncos will have room to make some splashes in the spring.
First things first, though, Denver will look to continue pushing for a playoff spot in the 2025 campaign.
