The Los Angeles Rams will be a hot name to watch for quarterbacks looking for a reclamation destination.
Sean McVay’s system is a great landing spot for quarterbacks, especially with uncertainty around who will succeed Matthew Stafford when he inevitably retires. While Stafford doesn’t look he’s going anywhere anytime soon, that doesn’t mean McVay and general manager Les Snead won’t look to find a suitable backup who could take over in the future.
One name that was recently floated came inside the Rams’ own division: Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray. ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler believes the Cardinals will move on from Murray this offseason and wrote that the Rams would be a good place for him to end up if L.A. wanted to young successor to Stafford’s position.
“Coaches love reclamation projects, and I think Murray can be salvaged,” Fowler wrote. “The NFL is starving for capable quarterback play, so he should find a home somewhere. The Rams would be an interesting option. With Matthew Stafford turning 38 in February, Murray could learn Sean McVay’s system and get a chance to potentially start down the road.”
It’s impossible to speculate what it would take for Murray to land with the Rams, but the idea is intriguing. He’s only 29, has made two Pro Bowls in seven seasons and thrown for more than 3,500 yards in four of those seasons.
The question for Murray is twofold: Is he worth the price to acquire and/or sign him? And would he be a better long-term option than impending free agent Jimmy Garoppolo?
Only the Rams can answer that question if this is a road they want to go down in 2026. It worked with Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield and Daniel Jones. Maybe it could work for Murray, too.
