Packers scout attends Georgia vs. Mississippi State: Who stood out?

Since taking over as general manager in 2018, Brian Gutekunst has drafted five players from the University of Georgia and three players from Mississippi State. That number could increase during the 2026 NFL Draft. Luke Benuska, Green Bay’s college scout in the southeastern region, was in attendance for the Georgia vs. Mississippi State matchup.

Let’s dive into some of the prospects who stood out during the battle of the Bulldogs.

Another Georgia LB

All of the Georgia prospects drafted by Gutekunst have been on the defensive side of the ball. A potential defensive prospect the Packers could target on Day 3 of the draft is Raylen Wilson. The Georgia linebacker was all over the field on Saturday.

Wilson finished the game with 1.5 sacks, one pass deflection, four pressures and four run stops. He has sideline-to-sideline range and plays with relentless energy. He does a good job of weaving through the trash when he is working downhill against the run.

The Packers could lose Quay Walker to free agency this offseason and could be in the market to add another linebacker to the room, even if they can lock Walker up to a long-term deal. With his ability to impact the game in a variety of ways, much like he did on Saturday afternoon against Mississippi State, Wilson could be a potential target.

A new TE3?

The Packers almost certainly will look to add another piece to the tight end room. With Tucker Kraft out for the season, Luke Musgrave will have a chance to showcase why the Packers drafted him in the second round of the 2023 draft. Even if Musgrave enjoys a breakout campaign during the home stretch, they’ll need to add another tight end with a more complete skill set.

Enter Oscar Delp. The Georgia tight end takes pride in bringing A+ effort as a blocker, both as a run blocker and in pass protection. The want to be an elite blocker is there and he has the physical traits.

In the passing game, Delp hauled in three passes for 41 yards and a touchdown. With his size and speed, he can stretch the seam and turn into a YAC threat when he gets the ball in space.

A lockdown CB

Kelley Jones turned in another stellar performance on Saturday against Georgia. The Mississippi State cornerback was targeted six times and gave up one reception for 19 yards. He also recorded two pass deflections and he currently leads the SEC in pass deflections with 11.

On the season, the 6-4, 195-pound cornerback has given up eight receptions on 35 targets for 164 yards and two touchdowns. With his frame and quickness, Jones has the tools to be a lockdown boundary corner at the next level.
