The Hoddle of Coffee: Tottenham Hotspur news and links for Wednesday, November 12

It’s been a couple of weeks since your hoddler-in-chief’s Keurig coffee maker went bust. During this period I’ve been using my french press to make my morning coffees, but wow do I hate the cleanup.

Anyways that’s beside the point. I spent a little bit of time looking up different coffee makers and settled on something I’ve been bemused with but never tried: a Bialletti Moka pot.

This little guy sits easily on your electric stove or gas hob or induction burner, and it’s very easy to use. Pour a little water, scoop a few table spoons of ground coffee and set the heat to low-medium. Wait 10 or so minutes and when the pot gurgles you know the coffee is ready.

I tried my hand at this for the first time on Tuesday and it was a lot of fun to make. I especially loved the sound of the coffee being ready. I certainly never got this excited about hearing the sound the Keurig made when dispensing the coffee.

But I think I ordered one that’s too small. I purchased a Moka pot that promised three cups of coffee (or is it espresso?). The answer to that question would probably answer whether or not I bought the right size. I was slightly disappointed when it filled only half of my American-sized coffee mug.

So now I’m in a new predicament. Do I go for the six-cup now? Or take this coffee-making journey one step further and begin purchasing espresso beans? I’m not sure.

What I can say is that this coffee tasted much, much better than the Keurig (and I used the same beans for both). If only I had more to drink, though.
