Eagles' DC Vic Fangio on Jaelan Phillips: When you shop at Nordstrom’s, you get good stuff

Nick Sirianni’s team is loaded with playmakers and versatility. Philadelphia (7-2) added stud pass rusher Jaelan Phillips at the trade deadline, and the early returns have been tremendous.

Phillips was better than advertised in his debut with the Eagles, logging six tackles, a fumble recovery, and a 4th-and-1 stop for loss in a one-score game with under 2 minutes left. Phillips also had one tackle for loss and two QB hits. During his Thursday press conference, Eagles’ defensive coordinator Vic Fangio compared the acquisition of Phillips to shopping and buying good stuff at Nordstrom.

In his first game with the Eagles on Monday night, Phillips had four pressures and one tackle for loss. Over his five-year career, Phillips has accounted for 26 sacks and 127 pressures.

In 2023, playing under Fangio, Phillips recorded 6.5 sacks in 8 games before tearing his Achilles. Phillips is an explosive player who dealt with lower-body injuries in 2023 and 2024. This season, Phillips has three sacks, seven QB hits, and led the Dolphins with 29 pressures according to NextGen Stats.

Phillips, 26, was a first-round pick out of the University of Miami in the 2021 draft and has 26 sacks, 61 QB hits, and 28 tackles for loss in 55 games with 38 starts. On Tuesday, following the trade deadline, Roseman raved about Phillips’ “freakability,” highlighting his explosive ability off the edge.
