Former top-10 pick spotted at Falcons' Thursday practice session

The Atlanta Falcons are hoping to end their four-game losing streak this weekend against the Carolina Panthers, and it appears they are bringing in some defensive reinforcements ahead Sunday’s contest. According to ESPN reporter Marc Raimondi, former top-10 draft pick C.J. Henderson was spotted at the Falcons’ Thursday practice.

Henderson, who hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since 2023, signed with Atlanta during training camp but did not make the 53-man roster. The Falcons later signed Henderson to their practice squad but released him in September.

The Jacksonville Jaguars originally selected Henderson with the ninth overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft but traded him to the Carolina Panthers early in the 2021 season. The former Florida Gators standout has appeared in 49 career games (32 starts), recording 172 tackles (139 solo), 16 passes defended and three interceptions.

The Falcons are dealing with a few injuries at the defensive back position. Dee Alford is currently in the NFL’s concussion protocol after taking a big hit in Week 10 and Mike Hughes sat out of Sunday’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

The team could use a little extra secondary depth entering Week 11, so don’t be surprised to see Henderson back on the 53-man roster or practice squad before Sunday’s game against the Panthers. Check back this afternoon for the Falcons’ latest injury report.
