Jon Gruden would be 'very interested' in New York Giants job, says brother

In the wake of the New York Giants‘ abrupt firing of head coach Brian Daboll on Monday — following a dismal 2-8 start and franchise-record 11th straight road loss — speculation is swirling around potential replacements.

Among them, former Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden emerges as a controversial “nuclear option.”

Gruden’s brother, Jay Gruden, fueled the buzz during an appearance on The Arena Gridiron.

“I think he’d be very interested (in the Giants job). He loves Jaxson Dart. If you have a young quarterback who is talented like Jaxson, you want a guy like Jon who is going to challenge him every day,” Jay said. “If you want a guy that gets the most out of your quarterback, the most out of your team, then I believe Jon would be a good fit.

Ultimately, Jay said, Jon would love to take over as Giants head coach.

“I know (he would). He loves the opportunity,” Gruden assured.

A Super Bowl XXXVII winner with Tampa Bay, Gruden’s offensive schemes could ignite the Giants’ stagnant attack. Yet, his 2021 Raiders resignation — sparked by leaked 2011 emails laden with racist, sexist, and homophobic slurs — looms large.

Gruden’s ongoing lawsuit against the NFL alleges improper leaks by Commissioner Roger Goodell, with a Nevada Supreme Court ruling in his favor blocking arbitration

Eager for vindication and a return — “I’d die to coach in the SEC,” he once said — Gruden eyes NFL redemption. For co-owner John Mara, hiring him risks fan revolt amid a 20-40-1 Daboll tenure.

Will desperation trump controversy? Time will tell if Gruden even gets a call.
