Lakers' Adou Thiero receives massive injury update ahead of Friday matchup

Adou Thiero is listed as questionable to play for the Los Angeles Lakers ahead of their road matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday, the team announced.

Thiero didn’t play in summer league and has been limited in practice after undergoing surgery to repair a left knee hyperextension sustained last season at Arkansas. He was cleared for additional on-court work last month after experiencing improvement in his knee swelling.

Lakers coach JJ Redick said Monday that Thiero could be available to play at some point during their current five-game road trip, which concludes Saturday in Milwaukee. It is the first time this season that Thiero has been upgraded to a questionable game designation.

Thiero was highly touted as a draft prospect this year because of his ability to score in the paint, athleticism, physicality and defensive instincts. He also boasts a 7-foot wingspan that enables him to get deflections and block shots.

Though in a limited capacity, the 21-year-old Thiero has caught the attention of several teammates and the coaching staff in practice. Redick even marveled at his leaping ability, calling his athleticism “insane” in a media availability last month.

Thiero is eager to get to work, though he has been diligent in his rehabilitation. Once he is cleared and ready to go, which could happen as soon as Friday, he will be looking to make an impact in any way he can for Redick and the 8-4 Lakers.
