One of Aaron Donald’s newest ventures in retirement has been podcasting. He and Matt Ryan started a new podcast, “The Inner Circle,” sharing tales from on and off the field during their time in the NFL.
For their latest episode, they welcomed Matthew Stafford to the show for a fun and insightful conversation. Stafford talked about how insane Donald’s workouts were, his go-to coffee order, what a post-game recovery looks like in Year 17 and more.
He also shared what it’s like to have Sean McVay rambling on the headset during TV timeouts,
“TV timeouts, man. TV timeouts are tough because he’s got open mic and we are not up against the clock and he’s just going,” Stafford said. “And the best part about it is he’s giving all these coaching points that are Day 1 coaching points for all our guys. ‘Hey, if this guy’s doing this, you make sure you snatch him. If he’s coming here, you’re coming down.’ And I’m just having to relay. And all the guys can hear it because it’s quiet during the TV timeouts and they can just hear the noise coming in and they’re all laughing at me. I’m like, ‘He’s still going,’ and I can’t talk back!”
Stafford also revealed that the guys in the strength room set an over/under on his longest run of the season, which “just goes down by a yard every year,” and talked about what it was like to throw to Calvin Johnson in Detroit.
The whole episode is worth a watch as Stafford chops it up with two NFL greats.
