Liverpool FC’s Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyonyi both started for England’s U19s in their 2-0 U19 European Championship qualifier victory over Lithuania on Wednesday.
Rio Ngumoha in particular stood out, registering an impressive assist when he danced between challenges on the left-hand side of the box, twisting and turning to keep defenders at arm’s length, before finding enough space to manage a cross setting up Shumaira Mheuka’s second goal of the game.
He was substituted in the 68th minute, while club teammates Nyonyi completed the full 90 minutes against Lithuania.
It’s nice to see Rio doing his thing on the pitch again as he played a grand total of zero minutes the week before, despite Liverpool U18, U19, U21 and first team all playing twice that week.
The duo are expected to get a few more chances to impress with the England U19s as the Young Lions play Latvia on Saturday and then take on Scotland on Tuesday before the international break ends and players return to their club sides.
