How’d We Do Last Week?
Most Wildly Inaccurate
This was hilariously wrong. ND finished the game with 0 penalties. Great take to be wrong on though.
Most Interesting
As a former player, I was wildly in favor of NIL, and HOPED it would bring more parity. We are definitely seeing that…..and as Shane Gillis said, the playing field is evened now that everyone can pay players. (despite what Saban said….)
Most Accurate
CFarris with a great callout on Aneyas Williams. If he had been in for a little more time, this would have hit. Williams looked great in limited action and earned more touches. Will those happen? Time will tell.
Now onto the takes for the matchup between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and thePittsburgh Panthers
Cold Take
Malachi Fields goes for over 100 yards
Fields has been very steady this year and has become quite the trio alongside Pauling and Faison. He was nearly at 100 yards in the first half last week, but fell short after an ill timed drop. Pitt likes to play aggressive and their safeties will be playing up to attempt to slow down Love/Price. Similar to last week and against BC, Denbrock will have plenty of deep shots queued up and Fields will be the beneficiary. He catches 1 long TD and then has 4-5 mid range catches to cap off a great day.
Hot Take
2 Interceptions from Tae Johnson
Johnson quickly went from, “athletic and good for a freshman” to a freshman All American. It seemed to happen in the blink of an eye, which is unbelievably impressive at the safety position in a newer defense. Johnson has incredible instincts, but even better range. Pitt will come out throwing and look to exploit the corner not named Leonard Moore….ND knows this and will have Schuler/Johnson ready over the top. Pitt QB Mason Heintschel hasn’t seen this type of speed/range in his life and Tae takes advantage and snags a first half pick and one on the first series of the second half.
