Michigan State basketball got both some good but also some bad recruiting news on Friday afternoon.
By now, you probably already know the good news on the Spartans recruiting front as Michigan State added five-star center Ethan Taylor to the 2026 class. Now for the bad news… five-star small forward Maximo Adams committed to North Carolina over Michigan State and others.
Adams is a five-star prospect with a recruiting rating of 97 in 247Sports’ system. He ranks as the No. 22 overall prospect and No. 10 small forward in 247Sports’ composite system.
Adams’ commitment to the Tar Heels was widely expected for weeks, with Michigan State, Kentucky and Texas being his other finalists in the mix. So with that being said, this one shouldn’t come as a surprise, and nor, should it be a damper on the excitement on the recruiting front out of Friday. Of course, adding Adams would have made Friday even better, but this was still a great day for Michigan State basketball with the commitment of Taylor.
