Brent Venables applauds Sooners for road success in 2025

The Oklahoma Soonersdefeated the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, winning 23-21 in Tuscaloosa. OU improves to 8-2 overall in 2025 and 4-2 in the SEC. The win was a signature moment for fourth-year head coach Brent Venables, and his team has put themselves in a good spot with regard to the College Football Playoff.

What’s more, Saturday’s two-point win means that OU has gone 4-0 in true regular season road games in 2025, and the Sooners will be undefeated in that category this season, with the final two regular season games both coming at home over the next two weeks. After winning just one game away from home all of last year, Oklahoma will go unbeaten on the road in a resurgent 2025 season.

In his postgame press conference, Venables was asked about his team’s performance on the road this year, and he pointed to how hard the team has worked to get to this point.

“They’ve worked really hard for it,” Venables said. “I’m not a boastful or bragadocious kind of guy, but I’m going to brag on our guys. They deserve it. They’ve put a lot into it. We’ve created a vision for that so I’ve got to follow through. Hey, man, this is what victory looks like. This is how we’re going to do it. I want to see you guys dancing and carrying on, just having some joy in the moment. I think it’s too easy to kind of go on to the next one and not have an appreciation for the moment in this world and maybe all the bad things that show up on the stat sheet, too. We’ll get to that when it’s time. That was fun to watch them having some fun.”

Winning on the road against Temple is one thing, but road wins over South Carolina, Tennessee, and now Alabama are really impressive, especially from a program that won six games last year. The Sooners aren’t winning pretty, but they are winning, and Oklahoma fans will take that. OU is halfway through a really tough November slate, and so far, they’ve navigated their road gauntlet with perfection.
