UFC 322 results: Michael Morales enters title contention with Sean Brady TKO

MMA Junkie has live coverage of UFC 322 with round-by-round analysis of every fight.

Michael Morales made his best case for a shot at the UFC welterweight title by taking out Sean Brady.

On the main card of UFC 322 at Madison Square Garden in New York, the undefeated rising contender completely dominated in a bout UFC CEO said was for No. 1 contender status. Morales (19-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) utilized his long reach and accurate striking to record a TKO of Brady (18-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) at 3:27 of Round 1.

Morales came out working behind a left jab in a low stance, ready to prevent takedown attempts. Soon enough, those jabs became combinations that put Brady on wobbly legs midway through the round. After the initial finishing blitz didn’t get the stoppage, Morales maintained his composure but kept the pressure high.

A moment later, the Ecuadorian landed another series of clean punches to send Brady to the ground. The follow-up swarm of punches was enough for the referee, and the celebration was on.

After this performance, Morales joins a crowded group of potential welterweight title contenders. In the fight that took place just before his, Carlos Prates knocked out former champion Leon Edwards spectacularly in the second round, and called for his shot at the title. Morales may have one-upped him with a first-round finish.

Morales, 26, is running hot with three consecutive first-round finishes. The other two were bonus-winning finishes of Neil Magny and former title challenger Gilbert Burns.

On the other side, Brady’s three-fight winning streak comes to an end. After losing to now-former champ Belal Muhammad, Brady picked up wins over Kelvin Gastelum, Burns, and Edwards.
