Jalen Hurts Week 11 grades: Eagles QB struggles but Philadelphia wins anyway

A long week ended with a Sunday Night Football game featuring the Philadelphia Eagles and the Detroit Lions. You could say that we waited all week for Sunday night.

For the second time in seven days, the Eagles played an NFC North contender, one loaded with weapons on offense and defense. For the second time in seven days, two high-powered offenses combined for a low-scoring affair.

The Birds and Green Bay Packers combined for 17 points on Monday Night Football. Thankfully, ten of those 17 points were scored by Jalen Hurts and company. In Week 11, during Sunday’s final game of a fantastic slate of action, Philadelphia and Detroit were no less entertaining, but they combined for just 25 points.

But, how do we feel about Jalen Hurts’ performance?

Jalen Hurts’ worst throws

Hurts only completed 14 of his 28 pass attempts in this one. He was sacked once. He picked up 31 yards on ten carries. He reached the end zone once as a rusher thanks to the Brotherly Shove.

When he was off-target, however, he missed wildly. Two throws come to mind. He overthrew Dallas Goedert and Saquon Barkley on two tosses that would have been long gainers at worst or, at best, touchdowns. The miss to Barkley came with just over 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

When Hurts is on, he’s on, but Week 11 was a tough one. It appears he hasn’t been in a rhythm during Philadelphia’s two most recent contests.

Jalen Hurts’ best throw

You all saw this one. Following a fourth-down stop by the Eagles’ defense with just over five minutes to go in the third quarter, the Eagles faced second-and-ten from their own four-yard line. Hurts felt pressure and escaped to the right and threw a beautiful pass to Jahan Dotson running along the right sideline. Dotson hauled the pass in, resulting in a 34-yard gain to move the sticks.

Jalen Hurts’ Week 11 report card

Verdict: First, let’s take some inventory. If the math is correct (and we believe it is), Jalen Hurts is 11-0 in games versus NFC North competition. That’s truly all that matters, but the critics who unfairly state he benefits from being part of a great team may come out of the woodwork to feast on him after this one.

There’s no need to push any panic buttons. Jalen Hurts has played solid football all season, but we are certainly somewhat concerned with what we have seen over the past two games. He’s been off target and too cautious, but Philadelphia wins again, and they own tie-breakers over the Packers, Lions, Los Angeles Rams, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
