Predicting Texas A&M's final two games of the regular season using ESPN FPI

Texas A&M (10-0, 7-0 SEC) remains the No. 3-ranked team in both the US LBM Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25 after Saturday’s epic and historic comeback, rallying to defeat South Carolina 31-30 after trailing the Gamecocks 30-3 at halftime.

Behind starting quarterback Marcel Reed’s elite second-half performance, passing for 298 yards and three touchdowns after throwing two interceptions in the first half, Texas A&M’s offense looked unstoppable, as Reed shredded the Gamecocks’ respectable secondary, connecting with star transfer WR KC Concepcion for 158 yards and Ashton Bethel-Roman for 139 yards through the air.

Texas A&M’s defense shut out South Carolina in the second half, allowing under 80 yards, and sacked QB LaNorris Sellers four times, including 19 pressures and ten tackles for loss. Just like the Aggies’ second-half run against LSU, which led to the blowout 49-25 win, this performance further proves that no matter the deficit, head coach Mike Elko and his staff can be trusted to steer the ship in even the most dire in-game situations.

Sitting at 10-0 and 7-0 in the SEC, Texas A&M will need to win its last two remaining games against Samford and Texas to earn a spot in the SEC Championship Game, which will be a tall task, knowing the Longhorns are desperate to win out to have a shot at the College Football Playoff.

After defeating South Carolina, Texas A&M now has a 99.8% chance to make the College Football Playoff, which makes sense given its undefeated record and wins over two ranked teams on the road. At the same time, they are the only undefeated team left in the SEC standings.

Looking at the rest of the season, here is what ESPN’s FPI predictor says heading into Week 13.

  • Nov. 22: Texas A&M (99.0%) vs. Samford (1.0%)
  • Nov. 28: Texas A&M (48.3%) vs. Texas (51.7%)

After Texas’s 35-10 loss to Georgia, the Longhorns are now only slight favorites to beat the Aggies at home. After the South Carolina scare, you can bet Elko will have his team ready to start fast and pressure QB Arch Manning throughout the night.
