Social media reacts ahead of high stakes Alabama vs. Auburn Iron Bowl matchup

The 2025 Iron Bowl matchup between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers just got even bigger.

One of college football’s premier rivalries, the looming Iron Bowl matchup in two weeks was already set to be a huge game for both teams, but as a result of Alabama’s 23-21 loss to Oklahoma, this year’s edition of the rivalry might’ve just got even bigger due to the massive stakes now attached for both teams.

For Alabama, the Crimson Tide now sit at 8-2 overall (6-1 SEC) for the season, and will essentially be taking the field for the Iron Bowl needing a win to keep their CFP hopes alive. Also, the Crimson Tide are still in contention to make the SEC title game, and could potentially clinch a berth with a win over Auburn.

As for Auburn, the Tigers currently sit at 4-6 overall (1-6 SEC), and assuming they defeat Mercer in Week 13, will be playing for a chance to become bowl-eligible in the Iron Bowl, with a loss to the Crimson Tide ending their season.

So, assuming both teams win this upcoming Saturday against FCS opponents, the Iron Bowl will come down to this. Either Alabama makes the CFP/SEC title game and costs Auburn a bowl game or the Tigers make a bowl while costing the Crimson Tide their CFP aspirations.

Let’s take a look at what some were saying on social media about the high stakes attached to this year’s Iron Bowl following the Crimson Tide’s loss to Oklahoma.
