The Detroit Lions lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, 16-9, in a weak offensive effort. But it was a weak decision by the officiating crew in Philadelphia that effectively ended the Lions’ chances.
Down 16-9 with 1:51 on the clock in the fourth quarter, Lions cornerback Rock Ya-Sin was flagged for a defensive pass interference call on a 3rd-and-8 incompletion from Eagles QB Jalen Hurts intended for wideout A.J. Brown. To say the call was controversial is an understatement.
The reaction from around social media ranged between aghast, scornful and even had some accusations of intentional wrongdoing by the officiating crew. Here are some of the more family-friendly comments about the call.
First up, Lions head coach Dan Campbell’s reaction:
#Lions coach Dan Campbell on the Rock Ya-Sin DPI
“I thought he played defense like he did the whole game. I thought he challenged and played it like he did the very first rep.”

Campbell was a little more forgiving than others…
Cris Collinsworth: “Oh, come on! Come on! That is terrible! That is an absolutely terrible call that’s going to decide this football game! If anything, it’s an offensive push!”

An anticlimactic end to a day of fantastic finishes. Can only guess the arm grab at the end is what the official deemed PI but hate to see that called at any point in the game, particularly there. pic.twitter.com/qVwXPr7GSi

I’ll reiterate my stance: Officiating needs to be torn down to the studs.
They need to rebuild it with the technology that’s now available. What they’ve done instead—which is to continually add on to what they already have, and overcomplicate everything—clearly isn’t working.

An awful night and the refs just turn the Dagger in the most Lions way possible

They ended the game on that call?

That DPI call is not why the Lions lost – at all – but that was one of the most ticky tack calls you’ll ever see. Just horrific in that spot of the game.

Awful call.
I think it’s cos Brown only goes at it with 1 arm, someone assumed his other one was being held.
NY has to buzz down and tell them ‘i get why you called it, but no’. https://t.co/0GqzdFjo1S
