Liverpool step up Marc Guehi January plans
Konate is free to speak to potentially interested overseas clubs in January – with Bayern Munich joining Madrid in the pursuit of the defender.
And Liverpool are now stepping up their efforts to replace Konate – with a bid for Marc Guehi now expected in January.
“Liverpool will accelerate plans to replace Ibrahima Konate in the summer transfer window if he doesn’t sign a new deal soon,” the report reads.
“Talks are still ongoing between Liverpool and the centre-back, but the longer the situation drags on, the more likely he is to leave.
“With Konate’s future in doubt, Liverpool will make a strong new push for Marc Guehi in the January window.”
Liverpool to bid for Marc Guehi as Konate doubts grow
Liverpool came within a whisker of signing 25-year-old Guehi back in the summer transfer window. A bid of £35m was made to Crystal Palace on deadline day – but the FA Cup holders pulled out of negotiations at the 11th hour.
The knock-back has had a big impact on Liverpool’s season with Arne Slot now having only three senior centre-back options. Guehi, like Konate, is out of contract in summer 2026 – and is overwhelmingly unlikely to sign a new deal at Selhurst Park.
Liverpool have effectively lost their clear run at signing the England international however – with plenty of interest in Guehi from Europe and the Premier League now materialising.
