Walid Regragui
The head coach of Morocco’s Atlas Lions, Walid Regragui, has made his ambitions for the Africa Cup of Nations on home soil crystal clear.
This November, Morocco confirmed it is ready for “its” AFCON. With a solid preparation, an exceptional run of form, and a confident message, Walid Regragui believes his team must set their sights on lifting the trophy at home. According to him, Morocco comes into the tournament having learned from the fiasco of the previous edition (eliminated in the Round of 16 against Morocco). “We’re heading to AFCON with the right mindset and no doubts. We stick to our values. We score goals and don’t concede many chances,” he stated.

Regragui then made his objective clear: “We have to win AFCON. We built something after AFCON 2023. We managed the post-South Africa period well. At home, we’ll be tough to play against—we’ve proven that. We’ve made progress and rejuvenated the squad. We’ve brought in young players while keeping our certainties. We have no doubts and arrive with confidence. But nothing is guaranteed; we’re focused on AFCON. Let’s hope there are no injuries. We need to win a title to grow. What matters to me is winning AFCON and making history.”
