Playing time has been hard to come by for Filip Jörgensen, with the 25-year-old restricted to just four appearances (three starts) this season so far after playing a fair amount last season (24 appearances across all competitions) while backing up Robert Sánchez.
Of course, opportunities have been not nearly as abundant this year with Chelsea involved in proper European competition and not just the UEFA Conference League. But it should also be noted that Jörgensen hasn’t exactly impressed during these opportunities, and he could not cement his role when Sánchez did get briefly dropped last season (eventually explained away as a “mental break” for our number-one, after he was restored).
Some might say such is the life of a backup goalkeeper. Except Jörgensen is not your typical backup — he’s much younger than most, for one — so perhaps unsurprisingly, he’s said to be “considering” a “potential January exit”, according to the “EXCLUSIVE” from Fabrizio Romano.
🚨🔵 EXCL: Filip Jorgensen considers potential January exit to get more game time ahead of second half of season.
Decision up to Chelsea, Jorgensen open to new chapter ahead of World Cup playoffs with Denmark as well.

That report was debunked to a degree soon after by Ben Jacobs, who added that Chelsea have “no plans to sanction” any sort of exit.
Both reports agree however that Jörgensen is looking for more playing time, especially with a potential World Cup squad spot awaiting him with Denmark. He hasn’t had any issues with getting into the squad, but he’s not in danger of unseating Kasper Schmeichel as things stand (though Schmeichel just turned 39, so his days are surely numbered at the top level now).
Chelsea do have Mike Penders in the wings, and coming up fast, and he’s likely to be part of the squad next year after his work-experience at RC Strasbourg this season. Jörgensen’s exit may be a lot more likely in the summer.
Understand Chelsea have no plans to sanction a Filip Jorgensen loan in January. Danish keeper open to options in order to get more game time, but a temporary exit not currently on the cards as far as Chelsea are concerned.🧤 pic.twitter.com/oUWemNFm7p
