Alex Texier was linked to the Montreal Canadiens by Elliotte Friedman on Thursday morning, followed in close succession by the St. Louis Blues placing Texier on waivers. The 30-year-old is having a hard time finding his offensive rhythm, but on the flip side, the Habs are desperate or warm bodies. [Player Linked To Canadiens Placed On Waivers]
Martin St-Louis decided to start Samuel Montembeault versus the Washington Capitals, but in the end, both his goalies ended-up having a very difficult outing. Montembeault was pulled after allowing three goals in 10 shots, while Jakub Dobes couldn’t do anything to stem the tide in the 8-4 loss. Unsurprisingly, Alex Ovechkin, who has made a career out of dominating versus the Canadiens, scored a hat trick. [Canadiens Highlights: Ovechkin Burns Shaky Canadiens Goaltenders]
Jake Evans was forced to leave the game after Tom Wilson decided to charge him, landing a vicious elbow moments before the Capitals scored. If Evans is out of action for an extended stretch, the team’s lack of centre depth will no longer be a pressing issue, it will graduate to an ongoing calamity.

Even though it’s fair to say Canadiens goaltenders have the yips, Mike Matheson has a point. The entire team is playing without confidence.
Mike Matheson tonight on the Habs losing streak:
“We’re just giving up way too much: odd man rushes, breakaways, point blank shots in the slot. No matter how your goalie’s feeling, that’s not gonna help them. We gotta fix that…we gotta find a way to stop it.” pic.twitter.com/nCS1rUqIze

At 37, former Hab Jeff Petry is the 409th skater in NHL history to play 1,000 games. He is also the 14th player to reach this milestone as a Panther — the last being Dmitry Kulikov, who did so on January 29. [Florida Panthers]
The New Jersey Devils have a goaltending controversy. Fortunately, there’s a solution. It’s clear as day what is happening in goal. Jacob Markstrom is struggling out of the gate this season. That’s not uncommon for him, as he tends to get going a bit later in the season. Factor in the early injury, and it’s evident why we’re still having this conversation. [New Jersey Devils]
Joseph Woll’s return to the net for the Toronto Maple Leafs this week couldn’t have come at a better time. Top netminder Anthony Stolarz has been out since Nov. 11 and has missed the team’s last three contests. Now we’re learning that he’s not close to returning. [Toronto Maple Leafs]
