A week before Thanksgiving, the Detroit Pistons and Motor City Cruise gathered to pass out donated goods to local families.
The Pistons hosted their annual “Pistons Give Back” event at their practice facility in Midtown on Thursday, Nov. 20. The entire rosters of both teams, as well as coaches and staffers, donned T-shirts with “Season of Giving” on the fronts as they handed out 400 packages of food and essentials to pre-selected families who attended the event.
“This is very meaningful,” Isaiah Stewart said. “Being able to give back to the community and city is such a great thing to do and to be able to help families out that could use it this holiday, it’s a great feeling, a great blessing to be able to do that.”

The team will also provide an additional 800 packages to be distributed by Matrix Human Services, DPSCD Health Hubs and Lighthouse Outreach Center. The packages include frozen turkeys, gallons of milk, non-perishables and toiletries.
“It just shows the nature of this organization and the priorities of this organization, is to be a part of this community, give back to this community and intertwine ourselves as much as we possibly can with the people of Detroit, and just do what we can to help,” coach J.B. Bickerstaff said. “Especially this time of year, it’s a great opportunity to help others celebrate different things and make sure they have what they need.”
The Pistons are off to their best start in 20 years, improving to 13-2 overall with Tuesday’s road win over the Atlanta Hawks. All-NBA guard Cade Cunningham returned from a three-game absence and finished with 26 points and 10 assists. Next up, the Pistons face the Milwaukee Bucks in Milwaukee on Saturday (8 p.m., FanDuel Sports Network Detroit) as they go for their 12th straight victory, which would tie the second-longest winning streak in franchise history.
