It’s been a tough start to the season for the Golden State Warriors. Steve Kerr’s team has endured a gruelling 17-game stretch, which has seen 12 games on the road and five back-to-backs to begin the new campaign. Golden State started the season brightly, but has succumbed to the high workload the early part of the season has placed on its shoulders.
Kerr’s team will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 21, as they face the Portland Trail Blazers. When speaking via ESPN’s NBA Today, Warriors’ insider Anthony Slater explained why the Warriors’ focus will likely be on taking better care of the ball. Currently, the Golden State is 29th in turnovers, averaging 17.1 per game, only the Dallas Mavericks turn it over more with 17.2 per night.
“The stat Steve Kerr keeps mentioning is the turnovers,” Slater said. “They’re 8-0 when they win the turnover battle, 1-8 when they do not win the turnover battle, and he says, look, practices and rest at home, typically, you’re less fatigued, you’re more focused, you don’t turn the ball over as much.”
If the Warriors can take better care of the ball, they will be in a much stronger position moving forward. Golden State has all the offensive talent it needs to be competitive, and the defense is far stronger when setting up in the half-court. Therefore, if they can remove some easy transition opportunities for their opponents, they could start stacking some much-needed wins.
The Warriors are 8-0 when they win the turnover battle and 1-8 when they don’t. It’s what Steve Kerr is focused on during this five-game homestand.

After Friday, the Warriors will have two days off before getting back into action against the Utah Jazz on Monday, Nov. 24. The veteran core will undoubtedly welcome the additional recovery time.
