Ja’Quan McMillian responds to Stephen A. Smith's silly comment

Ja’Quan McMillian had a huge performance in the Denver Broncos‘ 22-19 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, becoming the first cornerback in franchise history to record two sacks and an interception in the same game.

A well-intentioned Stephen A. Smith attempted to complement McMillian and Denver’s depth following that upset win, but the ESPN pundit inadvertently revealed how little he’s watched the Broncos actually play this season in the process.

“Ja’Quan McMillian, big-time game last night, two sacks, an interception, that brother was balling, okay?” Smith said. “And this was a dude that might not have been out there if [Pat] Surtain wasn’t injured.”

Surtain has missed the team’s last three games with a petoral injury, but he is the team’s No. 1 outside cornerback. McMillian is the team’s nickelback, a position unrelated to PS2’s spot, and a role that he’s held all season (and each year since four games into the 2023 campaign).

This was the 25-year-old defensive back’s reaction to Smith’s comment:

McMillian will continue to play in the slot even after Surtain returns from injury to reclaim his outside cornerback spot that has been filled by Kris Abrams-Draine in recent weeks. McMillian has six pass breakups, four sacks and one interception through 11 games this season.
