It’s now the second week of playoff football in the state of Texas.
Area round action in the University Interscholastic League playoff gets under way with several games on Thursday, with more games on Friday and a handful on Saturday.
Many of the top teams were able to get through last week’s bi-district round with ease, although one undefeated team received a huge scare. Allen moved to 11-0 on the season, but not before needing a fourth-quarter rally to defeat Lewisville in the first round of the 6A Division I playoffs.
A defending state champ from last year also needed a walk-off field goal to move on to this week, which Austin Vandegrift was able to do against Austin Westlake in the 6A Division II bi-districts.
One intriguing rematch from a playoff game last season takes place in the 6A Division II area round as Longview takes on DeSoto. Last year, the Lobos knocked off defending state champion DeSoto, 50-14, in the quarterfinal round.
