A season ago, Longview derailed DeSoto’s hopes of repeating as Texas state champions.
The Eagles will get a chance to avenge that defeat when they take on the Lobos in a rematch from last season’s UIL 6A Division II regional finals. This time, it will be in the 6A DII area round, which takes place Friday night in Waco.

Last season, Longview rolled past DeSoto, 50-14, in the regional finals with then-senior running back Kelvin Washington gaining nearly 300 yards and scoring five TDs.
Longview comes into Friday’s game at 7-4 overall, but the Lobos’ four losses have come by a combined total of 11 points. Since a 56-55 loss to North Forney in late October, Longview has scored 115 points in two decisive wins, including 63-7 in last week’s bi-district round against Rowlett.
DeSoto enters Friday’s game at 8-3. The Eagles dropped their first two games but have since won eight of their last nine, with the lone loss coming to arch-rival Duncanville.
Last week, DeSoto easily prevailed against Copperas Cove, 63-6, in its bi-district playoff.
