Former Chelsea star Joe Cole has revealed he’s noticed something “different” about Blues skipper Reece James this season.

James started as Chelsea beat Burnley 2-0 to record their third win in a row in the league as well as third consecutive clean sheet.

With Manchester City losing to Newcastle, Chelsea are now second in the table three points behind leaders Arsenal, who play Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.

James has struggled with injury issues, but those appear to be behind him and he looks to be back to his very best.

Maresca has confirmed James is ready to play three games a week if required, although he was taken off at half time against Burnley.

It was subsequently confirmed by Maresca the decision to take James off was pre-planned, and you’d fully expect the 25-year-old to start against Barcelona and Arsenal.

The England international has made 12 appearances in all competitions, and Cole has revealed what he’s noticed that’s different about James.

“Every dealing I’ve had with him, he’s quiet, calm and assured, you can be that type of leader, and he has that,” he told TNT Sports.

“He’s building this calmness, this style he’s maturing, he’s figuring out his body.

“I think he’s a different player to the one who burst onto the scene, he’s working it out, he’s a credit to himself and to Chelsea.”

Malo Gusto in good form this season

James isn’t the only right back in good form at Chelsea, with Malo Gusto also making an impressive start to the season.
