Packers RB Josh Jacobs (knee) will be OUT vs. Vikings

An important piece of news before the official inactive lists drop on Sunday morning: Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs will be out against the Minnesota Vikings, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Media.

Jacobs injured his knee at MetLife Stadium last Sunday and missed the better part of three quarters because of swelling and restricted range of motion. He missed practice on Wednesday but returned in a limited capacity on both Thursday and Friday, keeping the door open to playing on Sunday, but it appears the pre-game workout on Sunday morning told the Packers to keep Jacobs out of action this week.

A big reason could be the quick turnaround next week, and the potential of aggravating the bruised knee and missing more time. With four extra days to rest, Jacobs could be much closer to 100 percent come next Thursday against the Detroit Lions.

Without Jacobs available on Sunday, the Packers will turn to Emanuel Wilson, Chris Brooks and practice squad elevation Pierre Strong Jr. at running back on Sunday against the Vikings.

Wilson has rushed 53 times for 220 yards and a touchdown in 2024. Last season, he rushed for over 500 yards and averaged 4.9 yards per rush as Jacobs’ primary backup. Brooks, a versatile running back who can catch and block, could play on third downs and provide a reliable blocker against the many blitzes expected from Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores.

Jacobs played in all 17 games for the Packers last season and the first 10 games of the 2025 season. This will be his first missed game since signing with the Packers ahead of the 2024 season.
