Green Bay Packers fans celebrate defensive dominance on social media

Negative plays usually add up to positive numbers when you are playing defense.

But the Green Bay Packers were forcing multiple chunk plays of minus-yardage during their 23-6 rout of the Minnesota Vikings on Nov. 23 at Lambeau Field. The Vikings’ offense wasn’t stuck in neutral. Micah Parsons and Green Bay’s punishing pass rush had it going in reverse.

The Vikings had the ball five times in the second half.

On four of their possessions, they gained 2 yards or less.

On three of the possessions, they gained zero yards or less.

On two of their possessions, they netted minus-12 yards or less.

Those are the the kind of backward results for a defense that move your win total forward.

The Packers sacked Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy five times, four in the second half. They had three takeaways. The Vikings had series of 2 yards, minus-12 yards, minus-17 yards and zero yards (interception on opening play) before gaining 26 yards on their last drive (which also ended with an interception).

Minnesota’s offense netted a paltry 4 yards in the second half.

That’s the kind of defensive dominance that quickly makes Packers fans forget about subpar offensive performances against Cleveland, Carolina and Philadelphia.

Here’s a snapshot of social media reaction to the Packers’ defense having a truly elite afternoon.
