On Friday, the South Bay Lakers defeated the Santa Cruz Warriors by 20 points. Two days later, the two teams met again at UCLA Health Training Center for a rematch, and while the Lakers were victorious again, it wasn’t easy this time.
South Bay trailed by a modest margin for much of the first quarter, and it fell behind by as many as 18 points in the second quarter. But it started to claw its way back into this game after halftime, and after ending the third quarter down 87-83, it surged ahead in the final minutes and held on for a 108-105 win.
As he did on Friday, rookie forward Adou Thiero looked impressive and attacked the basket with no mercy. He finished with 12 points on 6-of-10 field-goal shooting, plus four rebounds, four assists, one steal and two blocks. Guards Nick Smith Jr. and R.J. Davis and power forward Drew Timme had 22 points apiece and center Christian Koloko grabbed 14 rebounds.
After a solid performance on Friday, Bronny James struggled with his shooting. He made three of his 11 shot attempts and went 1-of-8 from 3-point range, but although he scored just seven points, he had eight assists and three rebounds.
