We’re getting closer to January’s transfer window now, and the rumours are up and running.

TeamTalk today claim that Chelsea are chasing two Porto players with a combined valuation of £113m. Striker Semu Aghehowa and midfielder Victor Froholdt are both doing well in Portugal and look primed for a Premier League move – and Chelsea have apparently been “checking in regularly” on them.

We’ve said many times that we don’t see Chelsea getting into any serious January business this year, but that doesn’t stop the rumours coming, so we’ve got to report on them.

Plus, we’ve seen the club do some pretty unexpected things in recent years in the transfer market – who are we to rule anything out? If the evidence of the last few years is anything to go buy, there will be at least one unexpected sale and one unexpected purchase when the winter window opens.

In both of these cases we’d be very surprised however. We’re talking about players who Porto are going to be asking £80m for. Even if we get that down to £70m or less, it still feels unrealistic for a January deal.

If Liam Delap struggles this year and Nicolas Jackson doesn’t want to return next season, we can see us signing Aghehowa long term. Froholdt looks a really good player, but until we’ve given up entirely on Romeo Lavia, we can’t see him coming in either.

You can put both of these in the “long term possibility” categories for now.

There’s even more slightly unlikely transfer news involving Pablo Barrios out there right now – you can check out the sources here and see what you think.

We’ve predicted our team that we think Enzo Maresca will pick tonight, and we think some fans could be disappointed by his faith in one striker.
